A practical guide to choosing a private villa on Koh Samui for your family — bedroom configurations, beach access, hilltop seaview considerations, and recommendations for different travel groups.
Choosing a family villa on Koh Samui is rarely about price first. It's about how you want the week to feel — and what your group can comfortably navigate. The two questions that matter most are usually: how many bedrooms do you need, and how do you want to reach the beach. The rest follows.
This guide is written for families considering a private villa rather than a hotel resort. If you're travelling as 4–10 guests, want your own kitchen, your own pool, and a household that doesn't share walls with strangers — read on.
For most families, the bedroom count maps cleanly onto the size of the travel party:
KW Villas Koh Samui covers all three sizes. Our 3-bedroom residences include the KW³ Compound (closest to the beach) and Soma Villa (hillside seaview). Our 4-bedroom range spans Maenam garden estates (Green Lotus, KW Villa) and Bangpor hillside seaview homes (Pure, Vista). Lazy Villa is our only 5-bedroom residence.
This is the question that catches most first-time visitors off guard. Koh Samui's two best private-villa neighbourhoods — Maenam and Bangpor — offer fundamentally different rhythms.
Maenam is the calmer, more residential of the island's two beach-side villa zones. The beach is long, shallow, swimmable year-round, and faces the mainland mountains. Most KW Villas in Maenam are within a 2–10 minute flat walk of the sand. The advantage: children walk, suitcases roll, grandparents don't need a shuttle.
Choose Maenam if your family includes young children (toddlers in strollers), grandparents (mobility considerations), or anyone who values not driving to the beach every day.
3 bedrooms, 680sqm, from THB 9,900/night. The most beach-adjacent villa in our portfolio — a 2-minute flat walk to Maenam Beach. Single-storey. Ideal for families of 2–6 with young children.
4 bedrooms, 1,000sqm, from THB 12,800/night. Single-storey, mature tropical garden, 14m infinity pool, 7-minute walk from the beach. A favourite for multigenerational families and small wedding parties.
Bangpor sits on Koh Samui's quieter north-western coast. Our villas here are perched on a hillside above the bay, with infinity pools that face west — the sunset is the headline event of every evening. The beach is a 5-minute drive away.
Choose Bangpor if your family prioritises view over walkability — and if your children are old enough to navigate stairs comfortably.
4 bedrooms, 350sqm, from THB 9,900/night. Our flagship Bangpor residence with a panoramic ocean-view infinity pool. Sunset is unforgettable. Best for families of 2–8 with older children.
3 bedrooms, 260sqm, from THB 10,800/night. The quietest of our hillside residences — a sanctuary for couples with one or two children, or grandparents with grown families.
Here's where families often discover what they actually want from a villa stay — beyond the obvious questions of bedrooms and beach.
All KW Villas have full kitchens, but some are explicitly built for resident chef stays — KW2 Residence has a chef-grade kitchen and wine cellar; Green Lotus and Lazy Villa have pavilion kitchens that open to outdoor dining. Our concierge arranges private chefs starting at one meal a day; many families choose breakfast every day plus a special dinner.
Pool fencing is available at every villa on request, but pool depth varies. The KW³ Compound pools are designed with a shallow shelf along one edge. Cribs, high chairs, monitors, and certified nannies are all arranged through our concierge — typically with 48 hours' notice.
Every KW Villa is a fully private property. Pools are not shared. The KW³ Compound has 8 villas around a single private lane — but each villa has its own gated entry and its own pool. Booking the entire compound for a 48-guest celebration creates a private island within an island.
For small weddings, Green Lotus is the typical choice — 1,000sqm of garden and a 14-metre pool deck that reads as a ceremony aisle. For milestone anniversaries or honeymoons paired with family, KW2 Residence is the flagship. For multigenerational reunions, Lazy Villa fits up to ten.
